Give yourself the permission to be equal to the task.
When I work with Black Women, the assumption that I make is that they are technically competent and often not just qualified, but often over qualified. This make sense because we have been conditioned to believe that we live in a meritocracy. That success is a measure of how competent you are .
This is true to an extent , it takes greater effort to be really competent, it takes effort to get the next degree and the next and the next. However, this is not enough to get you to the next level of leadership, income and impact.
Each level requires its own skill set. Being technically competent might have gotten you where you are, but it is not going to get you to the next level. The next level of leadership impact has its own metrics which include not only a high IQ, and EQ but PQ Political Quotient, the ability to own and navigate power.
The area in which you are least competent in as an area that you are open to being dominated and oppressed. It’s not enough to just believe in yourself, you want to know that you can back it up. You want to be deliberate in increasing your effectiveness.
You can do this on your own or you can allow yourself to be supported.
Are you a Black Woman in the Workplace who feels called to the next level of leadership, income and impact?
