When the rules compete with your conditioning

When the rules compete with conditioning .

The truth is that leadership in the corporate world was not originally a place for Black people and women.

Just like any other space, those who are there first determine it’s culture.

Just like in any other space, when new people enter that space, they will either assimilate to or dilute the culture of that space.

The challenge is that for those who are entering the space, the dominant culture will either force them to conform or assimilate in order to advance alternatively it will spit them out or dominate them.

In the case of women this dominant culture and rules of success often conflicts with their conditioning. The rules of advancement in the workplace are often based on competition or on being competitive.

While women are conditioned to and expected to be selfless and communal, support and promote one another and are judged harshly when they are not. Men are naturally expected to be competitive.

The rules of the game are often contrary to who you are, therefore you have to be intentional.
