Stay firmly on the drivers seat of your emotional and mental state.
I’ve gained and lost weight more times than I can count in my life. I’m good at loosing weight, the excitement of the changes in my body as I loose inches and kilos and my clothes fitting me better and better fuels me.
What I haven’t yet figured out is the maintenance once I’ve lost the weight. I haven’t yet nailed down the art or maybe I’m rebelling at the principle of watching what I eat daily and exercising when I’m at my goal weight.
The habit and of eating consciously for the rest of my life hasn’t landed yet. What I fail to understand is that achieving an ideal weight is not like a qualification that you obtain once and you are qualified for ever. It’s a daily job.
So it is with our moods, the state of our mental and emotional health . Most of us fall into the trap of thinking that having a positive emotional state, that allows us to consistently be energetic, effective and maintain good relationships is like a degree. Once you have it, you have it for ever.
On the contrary, it is has to be maintained daily. Moods sneak up on all of us. Life happens; someone says something hurtful, someone dies, a sought out project or a promotion falls through, a song triggers a hurtful memory, you eat something that doesn’t agree with you and suddenly you are in a bad mood.
This often triggers a series of events that creates momentum and result in a bad mood that can lasts for days and becomes a battle to shake off. When in a bad mood, it is difficult to have the energy and drive to take actions towards the achievement of your goals.
Stay in the drivers seat of your mental, emotional health daily. You default state is to be calm and even happy. It is your responsibility to cultivate an internal environment that allows for you to maintain this state. That might be the only way you can maintain consistent effectiveness.
