Are you leading with expectations?

Are you leading with expectations?

One of the mistakes I see Black women in the workplace make is assuming that because someone is in a leadership position then they must have fulfilled all the requirements of a good leader and base their expectations on that assumption.

Part of the reason of this is the myth of meritocracy. The assumption that people get leadership positions on merit. It also comes from our relationship with authority based on our conditioning as a people and as a gender.

The truth is that there are many reasons why people get into leadership positions and some of them fall short of the standard, besides even the best leaders have short comings. Instead of making assumptions, study your leaders and align your expectations to reality.
